The San Francisco Bay Environmental Assessment and Monitoring Station (SF-BEAMS) is operated and housed at RTC. The station continuously monitors water quality from two locations in San Francisco Bay:

  • Tiburon Station, near the deep water channel that lies a few hundred meters north of the Tiburon Peninsula. Weather conditions also are monitored at the Tiburon Station.
  • Carquinez Station, at the major fresh water input to the bay at Carquinez Strait.

SF-BEAMS is part of a larger distributed observatory, funded by Central and Northern California Ocean Observing System (CeNCOOS), that monitors marine environments along the entire coast of California. The data are available on-line from CeNCOOS data portal and from NOAA CoastWatch (follow the links from the download page).
